For those of you running AFS, here are the facts: I wanted just to examine what was on my 3.0 CD, read the instructions carefully, taking note of the warning about removing AFS before upgrading to 3.0. But that warning was given *after* the instructions for using the 3.0 floppy to install the software needed to read the CD, and *after* the instructions for inserting the CD and looking for the Upgrade3.0 application. So I figured as long as I didn't actually start up the Upgrade application, I could have a look what was on the CD. Unfortunately, by inserting the floppy that prepares your system to read the CD, and restarting your machine afterwards like it asks you, the system won't restart, that is, if you were connected to the AFS hierarchy on the intenet. The restart hung at "Starting System Services", and to get past this I had to type a control-C. When I finally got logged on, I saw that all the AFS subdirectories were no longer functioning (they appeared as broken links). So all the information, literature, and software that was stored on other machines throughout the country but which appeared as part of my file structure got clobbered. What a loss! I thought 3.0 was suppose to improve the networking capabilities of the NeXT. If it allows us to connect to Appletalk at the price of losing AFS, it is no bargain for me. Ed
