Date: Mon, 16 Mar 92 17:10:59 -0500 From: djm@gnu.ai.mit.edu (David J. MacKenzie) Sender: gnulists@ai.mit.edu Subject: GNU text processing utilities release 1.3 Resent-From: info-gnu-request@prep.ai.mit.edu A new release of the GNU text processing utilities is available for anonymous ftp from prep.ai.mit.edu [18.71.0.38], in the file pub/gnu/textutils-1.3.tar.Z. The programs in the textutils are: cat cmp comm csplit cut expand fold head join nl paste pr sort split sum tac tail tr unexpand uniq wc Most of these programs have significant advantages over their Unix counterparts, such as greater speed, additional options, and fewer arbitrary limits. Major changes in this release: 1. Added -s option to sort to produce a stable sort: lines that compare the same will be kept in their original order instead of sorted by a bytewise comparision of the whole lines. 2. Made sort -u act like UNIX sort -u: prints the first of the lines that compare the same instead of the last. 3. Fixed uninitialized pointers in tr. 4. Add dummy -r option to sum for SysV compatibility. 5. Fixes to the regular expression library.
