Problem with GNU Emacs 18.55 under NeXTStep 3.0

We have just received NeXT machines running NeXTStep 3.0. The GNU
Emacs shipped with this release is 18.55. I have encountered the
following problem, and I wonder if anyone else has seen it:

When the emacs is split `horizontally' (that is, side-by-side
windows), and extensive editing is done in the left-hand window,
screen updates are garbled. The problem is *very* noticeable: you
couldn't possibly miss it.

I can be much more precise, and I can supply instructions for
reproducing the problem, at least on my machine. The problem occurs
both when using the Emacs 2.1 front end (which uses termcap eterm) and
when running emacs in a Terminal.app window (which uses termcap
vt100). The problem is especially noticeable when using a long window
(I tend to use 67 lines) and when the emacs variable
`truncate-partial-width-windows' is nil; however, it also occurs under
other circumstances.

So: has anyone seen this? Would someone running NeXTStep 2.1 be
willing to try to reproduce it in order to help me indict or exonerate
emacs?

Thanks in advance,
