I just had to add my two cents here. My company has just finished a 40 page brochure
and we had to use WordPerfect. Why? Because it was the only thing that did side by
side columns (ie not newspaper flowing type columns). I wanted to use Pages or
PasteUp, but of course neither were available on time. I've used Frame, and just
wasn't willing to go out and buy it now when so many better things are just on the
horizon.

And indeed, I must concur, WordPerfect is possessed. Every once in a while, the
format of the entire document would simple vanish. The two columns would
disappear and all formatting would be destroyed. Cute. You learn to save often
anyway. One of the ways I was guaranteed to do this was by cutting & pasting
from a text file.

On the biggest section of the brochure (had to break it down--WP just
couldn't cope with a 40 page doc.) which was about 16 pages long, it took almost
1.5 seconds for the cursor to move over 1 letter after the arrow key was hit.
This is on an '040 with 16 megs and nothing else running.

There was one other thing as well. WP treats tabs, right-aligned tabs, centered tabs,
and decimal tabs as different beasts. There was about 30 pages of program descriptions
and times in the doc. I told the secretary who was responsible to type them out just to put
tabs between each of the 6 columns of information and I would do the formatting at my
end (she was using WP 5.1 on an old PC). Anyway, when I got the document over, I had
to replace every one of her tabs with a centered tab or decimal aligned tab. That's 30
pages at 2 or 300 hundred tabs per page.

And to top it off, I added an ad (created in Illustrator) when the text was finally
finished. I printed it out and everything was fine. But the file will no longer
open under any circumstances. Thank goodness I printed it out once. (I was
supposed to get it digital form to the printer, but they're using the paper--
really classy 8( ).

May that program burn in hell for the two weeks of agony it just caused.

Kelly
