I don't understand why some people always have to come up comparing
software to books. I really do not see any sense in that comparison.
Computers & Software were made to make work more efficient and less
depending from place & time. The same cannot be said about books. And I
can assure you that from the view of a bibliophile a book and a piece of
software are clearly distinguishable. (BTW: Books happen to be so
expensive in Switzerland that most of our students *have* the books
*copied* at some copy shop and still get it for less. If you need a book
for your work, let your employer pay one copy and then have it xeroxed
somewhere, that's what most people think in regard to books that concern
them professionally. Most European countries are in the process of
making laws for software (most have no appropriate legislation) and they
tend to state that using software at home for which your employer has bought
a licence and which you are also using in the office (when you happen to
be there) should be definitely *legal*, because you are not making more
profit out of it than you would if you spent all of your day in the
office, just because the software is there... If your firm thinks about
going to market its products internationally, think about this and
forget about checking serial numbers of hosts or similarily stupid
stuff.)
