You can't directly plug a digital audio source into the DSP port. Singular  
Solutions maufactures a high-quality box called the A/D64x which has  
digital inputs and outputs as well as A/D conversion. Ariel manufactures a  
ProDAT which has digital inputs and outputs. (I have had no experience  
with the ProDAT but can highly recommend the A/D64x).

MetroTools is a commercial utilities package that contains a utility which  
converts various Mac sound file formats to NeXT .snd files. It works with  
both "flat" sound files and "snd reources". It doesn't convert from NeXT
