SLIP and -NXHost ?

I have tried to use "-NXHost" with a SLIP-Connection. I know that it  
probably will
be very slow. The Problem is it didn't work. I got the message:
"DPS client library error: Could not form connection, host hostname"
I assume that the settings "PublicWindowServer" etc. are correct.

 1) Is there a timeout which prevents the window server from connecting?

2) What settings apart from "PublicWindowServer" can prevent the window  
server from connecting?
