>I've been thinking of trying to talk people here into using the NeXT for >creating their scientific papers, posters, and presentations. What kind of >software is available for this? I'm assuming what we would need is a desk-top >publishing system, but I am completely ignorant about those. I have heard of >FrameMaker - is it any good? Are there any others? > >To make this go, we would need the capability to combine text, tables, >diagrams, scanned images, etc. > >Thanks for any info. Thanks for all the responses. In summary: TeX: Very powerful formatting language. Does everything. Unfortunately, the people here would still rather physically cut and paste then learn a new language. FrameMaker: Lots of features, but wasn't optimized for NeXTStep. (Also, just from what I see on the net, it crashes a lot.) PasteUp: New program?... I don't know much about it (except for that controversial post, of course!) And of course there are the various single purpose programs (word processors, drawing programs, etc, etc...) I'm thinking that FrameMaker might be what we're after, but I want to see what PasteUp is all about first. -- Alex Dommasch, Programmer |-- Field-Flow Fractionation Research Center |- Department of Chemistry, University of Utah V Salt Lake City, Utah 84112 |->|..
