Well, I just got off the phone with our campus NeXT representatives who
were kindly checking on when my order for the the 3.0/CDROM upgrade would
be available. NeXT is quoting a minimum of 9 weeks before delivery for an
order placed at the beginning of July. At the time the order was placed, I
was told end of August, tops.

This is not the first time that I have had problems of this sort with NeXT,
and judging from private conversations with other faculty and computer
center administrators my experience is far from unique. I conclude that the
problem rests squarely with NeXT, since I have been dealing with them now
through two different Universities. I find it impossible to believe that
NeXT is incapable of forecasting either the demand for their products or
their ability to meet the demand, so I must conclude that they are pursuing
a policy of willful deceit.

It was my lingering doubts over promises regarding timely upgrades,
delivery, and service that kept me from equipping my laboratory with NeXTs
when I moved here to Northwestern. As I contemplate the difficulties I am
having keeping my NeXT equipments already in place current, I am glad I made
the choice I did.
