How do you download using (XYZ)MODEM protocol?

Hi.

I'm trying to download some files from a dial-up BBS that doesn't
support kermit downloads.  Alll they have are ZMODEM, YMODEM, and 
XMODEM.  

Can anybody tell me how to download these formats?

I compiled the zmodem package from sonata, but I can't figure
out how to combine these command-line utilities with kermit.
Should I be using tip?  How?
