I am trying to run sndplay remotely(via remsh from another unix host) and it cannot play the soundfile unless I am doing remsh as root or some one is logged into the workspace. It also does not allow sndplay if you are running in the console mode unless you are logged in as root. ERROR: sndplay : Cannot play soundfile : /tmp/sound1.snd Any help would be greatly appreciated. -- Turnando Fuad Phone: (916)752-2387 CIPIC (Center for Image Processing and Integrated Computing) University of California Internet: tfuad@ucdavis.edu Davis, CA 95616 Bitnet: tfuad@ucdavis.bitnet

If nobody's logged, then it's the root preferences that counts: login as root on the machine you want to play and check "public sound server" in the preference app. But if someone is logged that doesn't allow public sound server, then you're stuck!
