Richard Stallman, if you're reading, you can press "n" now :-) My client would like information on exactly how to protect her NeXTSTEP app, the source of which she plans to distribute to licensees, against copyright violations (as opposed to copy protection). She remembers the Cobol world in which the first and last 50 pages of code were submitted to the U.S. Copyright Office - no kidding :-) I've been dutifully placing copyright notices in each Objective-C file header, but doing the same for nibs, tiffs, dbmodels, etc. hasn't worked so well :-) What's the proper procedure? Thanks for any info or info * you may be able to provide. -- Art Isbell Cubic Solutions NeXT Registered Developer #745 NeXT software development and consulting NeXTmail: isbell@cats.UCSC.EDU Voice: (408)335-1154 USmail: 95018-9442 Fax: (408)335-2515

For TIFFs, the proper procedure is to insert the copyright notice in a Tag 33432 (Copyright) string [TIFF 6.0]. N.B.: TIFF 5.0 (used prior to NS 3.0) specified the Tag 315 (Artist) string for this purpose. For .snd files, use sndconvert -i to insert the copyright notice in the infostring. I would talk to an attourney. It's really the only way to go. You still need to submit the first and last 50 pages of code if you file for copyright... I'll give you the name and number of a really great international patent and intellectual property attourney here in Houston who understands the technology if you want... andrew -- andrew@cubetech.com | "We cannot dwell in the time that is to come, Andrew Loewenstern | lest we lose our now for a phantom of our Cube Technologies, Inc. | own design." - Erendis 0000000701B61D1ADF0DFC9C16185CEA055200000007EB4A9FEB1922065D471A89E905B5
