Can someone suggest a public domain/shareware simple data base
program? I looked in sonata but couldn't identify any by the
name. Thank you.

It does not have a NextStep front end, but Walter Hobbs' "rdb"
package might suit your needs. It's available from rand.org as
RDB.tar.Z, or some such name.

Depending on what you want it for, you might find ScrapFinder (located
in the 2.0-release/demos directory I believe) to be worthwhile. I use it
for a Roladex and my wife is slowly building a cookbook with it. With a
little augmentation it could be quite a nice program (it's shareware, $10
as I remember) but the author, Jeff Blum, has taken a position with NeXT
I think, and that leaves ScrapFinder in much the same black hole as
BackSpace or NewsGrazer. Any comments Jeff?

Another package to look at might be Simson Garfinkle's SBook which has
lots of good features. It's a "for sale" application, but is priced
sensibly (a' la' Diagram!, Concurrence, etc.) at only $50 for students.
Quite a deal for the price and I'm planning to order a copy in the next
few days. There's a demo in 2.0-release/demos, and I think the manual (in
ps form) is in the submissions directory.

Hope this is Helpful
