 	          InstantTeX Development and Pricing Changes

Those who followed the development of InstantTeX may
have noticed that this program has considerably grown
and acquired new features such us the possibility to
easily insert pictures into the text. You may just drag
the picture from Adobe Illustrator, Draw, Mathematica
and many other programs directly into your TeX file, and
it immediately appears in the TeXview. Now InstantTeX
also includes TeXPalette, which is similar to loTeX and
EquationBuilder, but has many additional features. It
is very important that TeXPalette, unlike
EquationBuilder and loTeX, works as an integral part of
InstantTeX; there is no need to write your equations
separately and then insert them into your file.
TeXPalette considerably simplifies writing
complicated equations, especially when it is used in the
InstantTeX mode. We expect that on the way to the
InstantTeX2.0, which will work with the system 3.0, our
program will become even better. We are welcoming any
suggestions which you may have. We a very serious about
it. Note that both TeXPalette and the possibility to drag
figures into the text were developed as a response to your
suggestions. We cannot satisfy everyone, but we will try
to do our best. For example, we added to TeXPalette many
buttons corresponding to commonly used commands and
macros for LaTeX, Phystex and Harvmac. Today we have
added support for large documents spanning multiple
source files, as suggested by several users. We have also
added support for AmsTeX. You may tell us which TeX
formats you typically use and which macros are
especially important for you, and we will try to include
them into the future releases of InstantTeX.

We believe that many people can benefit from using this
program. InstantTeX makes NeXT the best computer for
TeX, at a price which is about 3% of the price of the
computer itself. However, in order to introduce it to
scientific community as soon as possible, we offer now a
special discount for InstantTeX1.0. Its standard price
is $150 for commercial, government, and private
end-users. (Please compare with $695 for Textures,
which does not have many useful features of InstantTeX.)
However, many users do not need to have a hardcopy of the
the manual and the program disk, since both the program
(without the license) and the manual can be obtained by
ftp from nova.cc.purdue.edu. We believe that
electronic distribution makes a lot of sense. We are
constantly upgrading the program, and upgrades are
distributed electronically in any case. We offer
electronic-only version of InstantTeX1.0 for $125.
Academic institutions, including faculty, staff, and
labs may now purchase InstantTeX1.0 at the academic
discount price of $120 ($95 for electronic-only
version). Registered students may purchase an
electronic-only version of InstantTeX1.0 at the
heavily discounted price of $45. There are also quantity
discounts for network licenses. Upon release of
InstantTeX2.0, we will make a free upgrade of
InstantTeX1.0 to InstantTeX2.0 for all registered
users. Demo version of InstantTeX is available from the
NeXT public archive: nova.cc.purdue.edu as
/pub/next/submissions/InstantTeX.tar or as
pub/next/2.0-release/demos/InstantTeX.tar. To get
the order form, please send a message to
dmitri@StarConn.com.
