Why is NewsGrazer so slow?

I have started using NewsGrazer lately. It's lovely to use, except that
it's so darned slow. I can understand that things like fetching articles
from the nntp server would be slow. However, just hitting a menu option
to get a submenu takes 5 to 10 seconds. Editing this post is agony
because it is so slow to update the window. It cannot keep up with my
typing and loses a lot of what I input.

So, how can this be? All these basic operations are in the Appkit - how
did Adams contrive to make them so slow? Or is it just me - is there
something I need to tweak in order to make the interactive performance
adequate?

I'm using version 2.0 release 72.2 on a 25MHz 68040 with 2.1. I have 20Mb
memory and a 400Mb hard drive. I don't have any similar problems with
other apps.

Hmm. I use news grazer on a similar setup to yours (16M ram, 25MHz
68040), and I don't have any problems with speed. Perhaps your machine is
thrashing because you are using too much swap space? Just a thought.

The main bottleneck in NewsGrazer is the NNTP feed.
The one I use is breakneck-fast early in the morning (low use) and
slow as a slug by mid-afternoon.
