How to convince an App it was autolaunched?

I am launching NewsGrazer from a shell script which is run when my
workspace starts up. I want NewsGrazer to hide when it starts, the same
way it would if I started it from the dock at login. I checked "Hide On
Atuo-Launch" in preferences for NewsGrazer, but it is not really getting
"Autolaunched", since it isn't started from the workspace dock, but rather
from this script.

I tried setting "dwrite NewsGrazer NXAutolaunch YES" before launching the
app, and I can see the default is set (via dread), but it still didn't
hide.

Is the any approved way to convince an app it has been autolaunched? Note
that the script at workspace startup is run via the WorkSpace LaunchPaths
default (if that makes any difference). Thanks in advance for any answers.
