You have something like (this is from memory)
/LocalApps/Adobe_Illustrator1.03.app.
Change its name to Adobe_Illustrator.app, leaving out the numbers.

Then the program file within it will appear in the brower as
Adobe_Illustrator1.03 (or some such).  Change its name, too, to
remove the number.  

Then it will work.  (You may need to log out and in, or some other
silly magic, too.)
