How does one network a pc with a NeXT?

There are two desired levels:
(1), where you can use ftp and telnet from the pc to the NeXT, and
(2), where you can use the NeXT as some kind of file server.
In both cases, i would like to use ethernet instead of a serial port.

What kind of software and hardware is necessary on the pc for (1)?
I suppose that on the NeXT end one only has to connect the ethernet cable---
is that right?

How is (2) done?

Thanks for any info.
