Derek Beatty writes | [...] I wasn't trying | to say that NXHost over SLIP was made slow intentionally. I was trying to | say that it might be deliberately hard to make it work at all. So far as | I know, to NXHost over SLIP, you have to have the same IP address for both | the ethernet and the slip interfaces, and to make that work, you have to | rather carefully adjust the routing tables, in the case of a standalone | machine. Actually, I had to _differentiate_ my ethernet and SLIP interface IP addresses in order to make -NXHost work (and I did get it to work long enough to decide not to use it at all). The key was in a message from Felix_A_Lugo@ATT.COM that I had saved away long before installing SLIP. My problem was that I had assigned my machine name, sounds, to the local end of the SLIP interface (each SLIP interface has a local and remote IP address, you know). After following Felix's suggestion to modify the routing tables so that both machines knew how to reach each other's en0 interface (not merely the SLIP interface), -NXHost would work. I would get into the details, but trust me - it ain't worth it. -- Brian Willoughby Software Design Engineer, BSEE NCSU BrianW@SoundS.WA.com Sound Signal Processing Software and Consulting NeXTmail welcome - NO EMAIL SOLICITATION without prior permission
