You probably need to have the route daemon running to get to the outside  
world.  Check to see if the following line is in your /etc/hostconfig  
file. 

ROUTER=-ROUTED-
(or ROUTER=address_of_router where address_of_router is a number)

If not, modify your /etc/hostconfig file and then reboot.

If you are getting an "Unknown host error" on a machine trying to send to  
your NeXT, then that machine probably does not have a corresponding  
name/address for your NeXT in its /etc/hosts file or in the name servers  
tables.  The machine sending mail needs to have the same name and address  
in its tables for your NeXT that your NeXT believes is its address.
