Urgent: How to remap sectors

It looks like an important sector of my external harddisk just bit the
dusk. I get

	Target 5: Hardware Error.... Block a8H <retries>
	sd2(5,0): sense key 0x4 add'l 0x3 messages
Block in error 168; Partition a FS, Sector 8

almost continuously (the new ROM continuously report this problem).
fsck always reports sectors 8-15 (I believe) to be bad, although I can
still read most of the hard disk (I hope my dump worked!).

So, I somehow need to tell my NeXT that it should map this sector to
be bad on a very low level (and perhaps check it). Preferably, I
wouldn't destroy the harddisk information in the process.

If you have good answers to

[a] Is there a tool/way to diagnose and remap bad sectors
	on my NeXT?

[b] Can I take my harddisk to a Mac, and remap this sector
without losing my NeXT file system?
or
[c] Is it ever feasible to change some low-level disk
	information without destroying high-level formatting?

these answers would be highly appreciated.
