printing problem

I am having a very strange problem with printing.

system info:
Cube with 68040 cpu
NeXTPrinter
3.0 OS without developer package

problem:
it will intermittantly not print from either the command line using lpr or
using the print tool from the menu's. The following show's up in the 
console window-
Jan 22 11:42:22 kimber Server:Local_Printer[298]: DPS client library  
error: PostScript program error, DPSContext 562f8
Jan 22 11:42:22 kimber Server:Local_Printer[298]: %%[ Error: undefined;  
OffendingCommand: ^?NXTfr-400 ]%%

I have tried rebooting which fixes the problem once in awhile but not  
consistantly then after awhile the problem reappears. I am printing normal  
files created on the local system. Has anyone seen this before or better
yet, have a fix for it?
