In the documentation to dump it says at the end that in order to have tape dumps that other machines besides next can read one should use dump.old. I have tried that and still could not read the tape (Sony 8 mm) with the restore program of a sun sparcstation which complained that the dump block is not a multiple of the sector size or something similar. Is there a way to generate dumps that can be restored on a sun? What happens if my hard disk goes bad and I would like to recover file on another machine? Any ideas out there? yygold@yadin.phyast.pitt.edu
