I have an Archive Python DAT drive mounted on one of our NeXT servers and we  
do many backups for various machines in the college using rdump from the other  
machines onto the NeXT.  We have sucessfully backed-up HPs, DECs, Suns and an  
SGI Indigo across the net.  Why not put the DAT drive on the NeXT and backup  
the other machines across the net onto the NeXT using rdump on the other  
machines?  Never seemed to have a problem...
