modem -- everex -- evercom

hello netters.

i've obtained an everex evercom 24e+ modem which i am hooking up to my 030
cube and accessing with tip.

i am having no trouble using tip to talk to the modem and dialing out with
'at' commands manually to make a successful connection...

however, if i use the :du:pn=... option in the
/etc/remote file and use tip then dialing is ok, but the modem does not hear
the answering carrier, apparently, and reports 'RING' instead, just before it
hangs up. hah. not funny.

so - is it the modem, or is it the tip program that's goofed up? any good
ideas?

send yer advice and requests for info to me directly,

thanks,

  David Wolf
