Renaming targets in bookshelves

This is about DL under 2.1:

I have found that much of the time I am unable to rename the targets in my
bookshelves. For example, if I have a man directory someplace, and drag it
into a bookshelf, it is nice to rename it from "man" to something more
descriptive. If I enter in a new name and hit <return>, the new name is
there, but if I save the bookshelf, close it, and then re-open it, the old
original name is back.

Given that I have permission to save the bookshelf (I get an error if I dont),
why is this information saved sometimes and not others?

Thanks.
