How do I enable 10baseT

We sent one of our stations to a site that uses 10baseT networking. I have only used thinnet, and they tell me the station did not recognize their 10baseT net. Is there some magic incantation I have to do to switch the machine from thinnet to 10baseT? Or was it supposed to automatically detect the 10BaseT? If I use 10BaseT am I supposed to terminate the thinnet BNC connector?

We are using 10baseT to connect our NeXT's. The machine automatically detects
the right interface.

No.

The NeXT will switch between 10BaseT and thinnet automatically. One of the problems you might be having is if the site has old 10BaseT, such as an AT&T Starlan 10, that came out before 10BaseT was standardized. The NeXT requires Link Integrity to be on, so you'll have to check the AT&T hub. Newer ones have DIP switches on the front that toggle LI; turn it on for the NeXT's port. If all you've got there is old hubs, you'll need a new one. It's the NeXT that has standard 10BaseT; the hub is "wrong." --- # Daniel M. I can't comment for 3.0 yet, but I ran on thick wire ethernet, switched to thin wire, moved to a new building with 10base T, plug and play! Running on 10base T as we speak. If you don't have 10base T connector, there are thin to 10baseT adaptors available in catalogs, I believe. ----------------- J. W. Wooten

Just a side note. Starlan 10 is a major bummer anyway because of its speed. I tried to ftp to our unix box which is about two feet away and could physically watch the binary data go over and be counted. I might as well have had a 2400 baud modem. maurices
