We soon get 2 HDs: One HP 1Gig, 10.5 ms One Quantum 105MB, 17 (?) ms The NeXT is used most of the time for software-development + mail, UUCP, news-batching and some indials, only one uucp-site at the moment. We want to separate /usr/spool, swap and /user from each other so that one user or process can't crash the whole system by filling up the swapfile or any other filesystem. What is the best configuration for such a system? Ideas: 1) 2 partitions on HP, 2 on Quantum: System + /tmp on part 1 HP, /user on part 2 HP, /usr/spool on part 1 Quantum, swap on part 2 Quantum 2) 2 partitions on HP, 1 on Quantum: System + /tmp + swap on 1 HP, /user on part 2 HP, news and other things (e.g. /NextLibrary/Documentation) on Quantum 3) System on Quantum ??? One the one hand the HP is much faster than the Quantum, swap must be fast, so we put swap on the HP -- on the other hand, for swapping, there must run a lot of programs and these programs + data are normally loaded from the HP. What is the best solution? Any suggestions and ideas are welcome.
