hm.. I thought I was the only one having problems with AppleTalk on the 3.0.

Simply put, the AppleTalk portion is not even a beta material.

After clicking on a Zone in /Net/AppleShare, I have the following shit
happening right now. Looks like I'm going to have to reboot AGAIN.

stealth.andrew.cmu.edu> ps aux
USER PID %CPU %MEM VSIZE RSIZE TT STAT TIME COMMAND
root 99 79.3 6.0 5.77M 1.20M co R 39:13 (atalkd)
jim 174 7.8 17.9 21.9M 3.58M ? S 10:06 - console (WindowServer)
....

Pick one... they all go to the same place. :-)

We have observed and reported to NeXT this problem. No workaround
was offered, so we turned off AppleTalk stuff. It will be an
unused 3.0 "feature" until it works.

The autoNetWareMounter does the same thing (burns cpu). Apparently
there some sort of kernel bottleneck or a mutex is being locked
somewhere. NeXT definitely knows about it though (whether they think
it's a problem or whatever is different).
