Lacking extremely productive things to leave our NeXT doing all day, we would like to get a _TEXTUAL_ newsreader for the NeXT, ie one that will work from the Terminal program or a Dial-Up modem. Any suggestions and FTP sites? (source requiring compilation is perfectly okay.) Along this same line, does anyone know where to get source/code for a TEXT version of UMORIA that will run on the NeXT? I realize that these are somewhat frivolous requests but all work and no playU well you know. Thanks in advance, Erik Oliver (eoliver@acc.haverford.edu)

I've had no problems compiling any of the newsreaders out there,
including rn, trn, nn, and tin. They all work pretty much without a
problem, although you need to know some of the tricks of where NeXT
hides things to answer the configuration questions properly. (eg the
NeXT C library is in /usr/lib/libsys_s.a, not /usr/lib/libc.a; sigh.)
Archie can point you to sources.

Again, use archie to find out where to get sources, and you should be
able to compile them without much problem. I haven't compiled UMORIA,
but I do have nethack up and running.

If you want it to create the threadfiles, you'll need to delve into running the mthreads program. Otherwise, it should work right off the bat. -- Brian K. Thanks everyone for tips in the right direction, we are working on compiling a newsreader as we speak, although we got interupted when a user mentioned some missing .h files and so until we get some of those bugs sorted out, it will be a while before we get news running. Thanks again, Erik
