I have a user who telnets to my NeXT using xterm (X11R4) and
has this vexing problem about not getting a CR (just an LF)
when he hits return. So things march across the screen,
which is mighty inconvenient. I don't know a thing about X
or xterm, but when I telnet from another NeXT, or from an
Ultrix box, or from CUTCP on a DOS box, I don't see this
problem. So I don't know how to help this guy. So please
help me help him, whichever end of the connection the
problem lies on.

Hi, Jess!
I think the problem lies either in the termcap file on your Next,
or in the environment setting that is done in the login that you
have provided him. I checked the file on my Next (/etc/termcap)
and it does seem to have an xterm definition that provides for
a carriage return (cr=^M) and a line feed (nl=^J). Also, when
I telnet into my NeXT from an Xwindow, typing terminal type xterm
gets me a window that "more" will run in, but not VI. I'm cur-
rently checking further on this as time permits - I would agree
that foreign terminals other that remote Nexts don't get a very
clean environment or very robust terminal emulation. I've appended
the chunk of my /etc/termcap file below- you might want to match
it up with yours, in case something happpened?
