Has anyone upgraded to 3.0 and used one of the Deskjet drivers on the archives? I'd like to know if there is any difference in installation to save myself trouble when I upgrade. At present I use the driver from Reiner Mueller. R. de Lucca Johns Hopkins Univ. Followup-To: Distribution: world Organization: HAC - Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore Keywords:

Yah, it doesn't work :-)
What I had to do is dup the NeXT laser jet entry in
/NextLibrary/PrinterTypes then use the print manager to create a new
printer using the dup'd entry, then mod it to use the freeware HP500
driver (using 'nidump printcap . >xx', modding the new entry to use the
freeware driver, then 'niload -v printcap . <xx', as root.
NeXT supposedly has an HP500[C] driver in 3.0 but I couldn't find it.
Note that your serial cable to the HP500[C] must be wired properly for
hardware flow control, and note that the HP500[C] does not use RTS for
flow control, but DTR. It's a mess. I don't know how you would do it
on a non-turbo machine (which doesn't have hardware flow control).

Well, NeXTStep 3.0 has finally reached germany and this week I will receive my copy. The first thing I will do is the adaption (if it needs one) of the djf. As soon as I can get it run, I will upload it to the archives ... probably next week or so. When I use the djf version that came with DeskJet_2.03 I don't get solid grays at all on my DeskJet plus I get just dots instead. Changing the djf fixes things but I need A4 support hence I need to recompile the djf with out DJCOMPRESS, not easy under 3.0
