I really like the fact that with 3.0, I now have most of my interface in french (except for online help and spell checking, but that's another story). Anyway, today I was printing something and my printer ran out of paper. Up comes the warning panel: "Il n'y a plus de papier dans l'imprimante." And a wonderful voice tells me: "Your printer is out of paper." What!? :-/ Hey! If french is my main language (and my system language, for that matter) then my NeXT should give me the warning in french! I checked /usr/lib/NextPrinter/French.lproj, and the sounds there are indeed french sounds. But they are not the ones who are played. What gives? I thought, hey, the print daemon must run under the user "daemon", so I fired up UserManager, and told it that daemon's language is French. Didn't help. In fact the warning still comes in english, but now it seems like the machine only plays the sound when the Alert Panel goes away! (Perhaps daemon wasn't meant to have a language! :-) I also tried changing root's language to no avail. BTW, does anyone know *where* the language info of a user is in the netinfo database? It appears in UserManager, but when I open a user in NetInfoMgr (to remove the language for daemon), it doesn't appear anywhere... Perhaps I should write to bug@next.com. Actually, I think I'll cc this message to them. Anybody got any ideas, clues, thoughts? -- Pascal "The Rascal" Gaudette pascal@nextasy.physics.mcmaster.ca MacNUG president | *NeXTmail encouraged* graduate student, McMaster university | Je ne suis pas infaillible. What!? :-/ I switched language to german on 3.0 and it (she) talked german to me. However I worked under root all the time - maybe that's the difference, I didn't yet check it. -- Detlev Droege | droege@infko.uni-koblenz.de Universitaet Koblenz, | (NeXTmail ok) Institut fuer Informatik | Voice: +49 261 9119-421 Rheinau 3-4, D-5400 Koblenz, Germany | Fax: +49 261 9119-499
