AppleTalk Zones not appearing.

Hello,
I use a NeXTstation Turbo with no other NeXTs on my local net and am using
NeXTSTEP 3.0 (final, not beta). I have installed the AppleTalk package.
After turning on the AppleTalk connectivity via the Preferances app, I
re-boot, but with no Zones or Printers found. The /Net sub-dir is empty.
I use the default values that 3.0 has for the entries in the /localconfig
part of NetInfo of the AppleTalk section.
If I change the Network ID from 62580 -> 21250 (supplied by a system admin
person here) I can see the local Zones' machines/servers but do not see any
other zones at all.
The university here has many AppleTalk Zones, of the form : unimelb-?????
in my departments case it is: unimelb-Maths. I do not see any of them.
When I try to connect to a printer via the PrintManager App, the system
keeps twirling away never finding a printer.
We use AppleTalkPhase = 1 here, and this was changed from 2->1 in the
NetInfo bit from the very start.
If anyone can make *any* sense of my comments please let me know. I would be
happy to explain further, especially to direct questions.
I guess the bottom line is: Why are there no Zones appearing? Why is the
NeXT not changing the Network ID from 62580 to something valid like 21250?
Why are there no printers available, even when I can see the local zones'
servers?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On the Mac IIfx right next to my 3.0 Turbo, I can see all, and connect to all. One question is complexity. Our AppleTalk net is about 50 zones on about 30 ethernet and localTalk segments. Has anyone seen 'flawless' connection by a NeXT into an equally complex appletalk. I am seeing 10 to 20 second delays when I click on a zone before I see any fileserver info, and 20-40 second delays when I look for printers. We are a Phase 2 network, if that means anything. - geoff -- "The only thing obsoleted by Windows 3.1 is poking myself in the eye with a pointed stick." - Gene Lee --------------------------------------------------------------- Geoffrey Brunkhorst, RCF brunkhorst@Mayo.edu Guggenheim 10 (507) 284-1805 Mayo Foundation, Rochester MN, 55905 USA fax (507) 284-5231

One thing you might check is your local zone. I changed mine accidentally and things went to hell in a handbasket. Our major problem here is not being able to disconnect from a server after openning and closing a file. The system thinks the file is still open. The one thing that seems to work perfectly is access to printers once you guess the correct laserwriter driver. We are Appletalk 2 on an extremely large network, ~4000 unix machines, and ~7000 macs.
