How to export NeXT printer to Suns?

I have one NeXT with printer, running 2.1, amidst a sea of Suns. I've
been running for a long time with the NeXT's Network Type configured
as Non-NetInfo Network, with NIS enabled. The printer is a recent addition.

Local print works fine, but I can't get the printer exported. If I just
try a print operation from a remote Sun, I get:

... /usr/lib/lpd: Local_Printer: Your host does not have line printer access

If I go to PrintManager, and try to enable Public access, I get an Alert box
complaining "Printer cannot be exported to this same computer".

What am I doing wrong?

I have the exact same problem in reverse! I would like to print
remotely from our NeXTstation to a SparcPrinter attatched to a Sparc
2. I have added the appropriate printcap entry in NetInfo and added
the hostname of the NeXT to /etc/hosts.lpd on the Sparc. When I try to
print to the remote printer the job is queued in the local queue but I
get a message from the Sparc "Your host does not have line printer
access". I have spoken to the local Sun experts, but they are at a
loss. I have also spoken with a local NeXT expert who is also at a
loss. Note that the Sparc prints to the SparcPrinter locally without
problems and that the Sparc is *not* running NIS. Also note that both
machines can resolve the hostnames successfully (ie, telnet and ftp
work fine using hostnames).

What am I doing wrong?

Don't know if this will cure it, but you might want to add a line SIMILAR
to the following in /etc/hosts.lpd:

------------------

/etc/hosts.lpd
+ +

------------------

This tells the computer which hosts & who has access to the printer (The
above allows access to everyone, everywhere). Just a thought...
