The Webster app on my '030 cube running 2.1 has recently started behaving strangely -- it dies with a protection violation trying to access memory location 0x3 when searching for words in the dictionary (the thesaurus works fine). Some searches (such as "North America") work fine, but most get the protection violation. I have a copy of the 2.1 distribution on optical, so I tried it. When I booted from that disk, Webster worked fine. I assumed from that that either the application or the data files in /NextLibrary/Reference had been corrupted. However, copying both over from the optical disk did not solve the problem. Thus, it appears that something else in the environment is causing the problem (sdmach? Workspace.app?) Before I go ahead and rebuild my entire hard disk, I thought I'd send this out to see if anyone else had seen similar behavior. I can't find any other app that is misbehaving... -- -- Tim Olson Apple Computer Inc. / Somerset (tim@apple.com)
