Ok, I've got the modem talking fine using tip. So I know there's no major problems :^) However, when running the uucp chat script it appears that the port is being run in 7bit even parity mode. In tip I set pa=none (in /etc/remote) and got a successful login with the other system (SCO 3.2.4 using 8bit getty). But when uucp does the chat, the SCO box doesn't seem to like the <cr> in the login. It doesn't seem to accept it. The chat script times out and you know the rest. I've seen the same thing on the SCO box before when calling in with something that was using 7E1 but changing it to 8N1 fixed the problem. So.... How to I get uucp to use pa=none like tip! and please don't tell me that I have to change the getty on the SCO box. -- | Chris Gregors aka General Mayhem | | The secrets of the universe are very simple, I just can't figure them out! |

You can use P_ZERO in your chat script to set zero parity, but I don't think you can force it to use no parity. See the man page for L.sys for more info. I had problems similar to yours until I replaced the NeXT UUCP with Taylor UUCP. You may find that many of your problems will go away simply by switching to Taylor. I recommend it. -- Dwight Everhart biff@biff.gbdata.com (NeXT Mail and MIME OK) uucp-gw.cc.uh.edu!tghost!biff!biff

See the man page for L.sys for more info. P_ZERO gives zero parity, which in fact is no parity. -- Heiko W.Rupp Gerwigstr.5 7500 Kh'e 1 hwr@pilhuhn.ka.sub.org +49 721 693642 Coincidence, n.: You weren't paying attention to the other half of what was going on.

I have your message at the office) mailed me something similar including a complete chat script. the P_ZERO makes all the difference! Now they chat fine. And my boss (who was bagging about no connections for mail) still doesn't understand why I read news! -- | Chris Gregors aka General Mayhem | | The secrets of the universe are very simple, I just can't figure them out! |
