I recently compiled the gopher client for unix from Univ. of Minn. It compiled fine, but when I try to run it from the terminal window commnand line I receive the message. gopher: command not found. However if I double click on the unix icon through nextstep (3.0) it runs fine. I tried playing with protections etc. that didn't seem to work. Any suggestions? Shouldn't a program with the unix icon run from the terminal window command line? John Rutherford

John, If you compiled the textual client, then you can run it from the command line, if you have the NeXT graphical client, then it only runs from the graphical shell. If you have the text client and it continues not to run, make sure that the path to the text client is in either your .cshrc or .login PATH variable. Eg, if gopher is in /LocalApps/gopher, and /LocalApps isn't part of your path, then to run from the command line, you will need to type : /LocalApps/gopher or add /LocalApps to your default search path. -Erik
