I think you only get a reciept if it is read by a NeXT, and maybe only with Mail.app . If you read it with unix-mail or pine, I don't know if you get one. I'm certain I've never gotten one when sending to non-NeXTs. >2) The nodename on messages is being truncated >(userid@crob.flint.umich.edu becomes userid@crob). This is OK as long as >our local nameserver is running, but when it is down (or overworked), >messages are sent on to its nameserver for processing and the message >bounces with Host Unknown. Also - it seems to only be doing it to messages >destined for the same domain (userid@infotech.tamu.edu works OK). We had a similar problem, I think that is some bizarre stuff in your sendmail.cf file (I am assuming you mean the nodename on your return address?). It was a LOT of changes, ended up gtting one (sendmil.cf) that was configured for MSU and doing a search and replace on the domain names. Even then, stuff like PINE and TIN still goofed up the return addresses until I modified their RC files.
