Powerdown incomplete (hangs)
#417

System: Turbo Color, 406Mb disk, 16Mb RAM, NXFax driver (Zyxel)

Last evening I connected an Exabyte 2.3 GB tape drive to the NeXT at SCSI
address 3. The NeXT failed to boot, but I think it was because I forgot to
terminate the SCSI bus on the tape unit. I shutdown the machine without
syncing and brought it back up after setting up the tape drive differently,
this time at SCSI address 5.

The system found the tape drive and I was able to use it normally with the
/dev/rxt0 and /dev/nrxt0 drivers.

However, the machine will not powerdown normally now. After I confirm the
powerdown action, it looks like the syncing and process termination starts,
but hangs somewhere during the shutdown.

I can still bring up the monitor and poke around there, but I can't find
anything that looks suspicious. A second pressing of the power key
followed by return, shuts the machine down immediately, but it is not a
clean shutdown, so fsck runs on the next boot.

All other operations appear normal.

It almost seems like it is looking for another disk to sync or something
like that since I was messing with the SCSI address on the tape drive, but
the problem persists even when the tape drive is removed.

The only other significant events that happened recently were:
1. I added the NXFax driver to use a Zyxel modem
2. Stealth flight simulator crashed hard earlier in the evening and locked
up the machine.

Any ideas? All help will be appreciated.

Thanks
