Hi out there!

I have a problem attaching my old Mac harddisk to the Next.
It it a Conner CP 3040A set to SCSI-ID 2 (external)

When i want to initialize it with the disk command:
	# disk -i /dev/rsd1a
following error occurs:
	disk name: CONNER CP3040A-40mb-3.5
	disk type: fixed_rw_scsi
	writing disk label
	creating new filesystem on /dev/rsd1a
	/usr/etc/newfs -n -v /dev/rsd1a
	/etc/mkfs /dev/rsd1a 40880 40 2 8192 1024 32 10 60 4096 t
	/dev/rsd1a: 40880 sectors in 511 cylinders of 2 tracks, 40 sectors
	        41.9Mb in 16 cyl groups (32 c/g, 2.62Mb/g, 576 i/g)
	super-block backups (for fsck -b#) at:write error: 32
	wtfs: I/O error
	/usr/etc/newfs /dev/rsd1a failed (status 1)

The formatter App by Rory Bolt says the following:
Unable to format disk due to error in mode select command.

formatter gives me the following /etc/disktab entry:
# CONNER CP3040A-40mb-3.5
CP3040A-40mb-3.5|CONNER CP3040A-40mb-3.5|CONNER CP3040A-40mb-3.5 w/512 byte
sectors as 1 partition:\
	:ty=fixed_rw_scsi:nc#1026:nt#2:ns#40:ss#1024:rm#3600:\
	:fp#160:bp#0:ng#0:gs#0:ga#0:ao#0:\
	:os=sdmach:z0#32:z1#96:r0=a:\
	:pa#0:sa#40880:ba#8192:fa#1024:ca#32:da#4096:ra#10:oa=time:\
		:ia:ta=4.3BSD:

Then i tried it with disk -i and specifing a disktab entry:
	disk -i /dev/rsd1a -t CP3040A-40mb-3.5
and it's the same!!!

BUT: Accessing it with tar cvf /dev/rsd1a * works.
So the Next can access the harddisk. (Or am i wrong???)
I understand that Next can only do asynchonous data transfer. A hardware
support here in germany told me that the CP3040A con ONLY work asynchonous.

So what's the error here???

Many many thanks in advance,
stefan

Apple uses a non-standard SCSI interface. Some Apple drives will not work
if connected to a NeXT SCSI port. Some will - you takes your chances. The
problem does indeed revolve around the mode-select command, as related to me
by a NeXTedge Tech person.

The drive *I* had a problem with was an Apple 80SC (or whatever), which is
really a Quantum ProDrive in disguise - BUT it has a different ROM on it
that drives the Apple SCSI interface hardware. I finally got it to work,
but your drive may be slightly different.
