I have a NeXT Color Dem. board inside my cube with a 040 board and am  
running the system as a stand alone (no network).  My question is how do I  
setup the mail system so I can recieve mail via the net?

Please don't respond by sending me a mail message ... the mail system is  
obiviously not setup at this time.

You have two choices:

1)  Get a network connection.
2)  Get a modem and run uucp, SLIP, or PPP
