Automatically shut down workspace and power off machine---how?

I'd like to be able to have my NeXT shut down at some point during the night and I'm not around, but I'm unsure how to accomplish this. On the one hand, while shutdown does offer a -p option to power the thing off, it doesn't appear to shut down the workspace manager nicely (e.g. allowing it to warn apps so they can put up dialogs if there are unsaved changes). Further, putting 'shutdown -hp now' in a cron job doesn't do anything (I assume it only manages to shutdown the shell that chron spun off or something). Thus: IS there a polite way to shut the workspace manager down from a script, and is there a way to power off the machine via a cron job? (I'd be perfectly happy if I only needed to write a little application to send some magical message to the workspace manager that would have it log the current user off politely, and then call another program to in turn shut down and power off the system) Thanks for any thoughts, and I apoligize if this is a RTFM question... \david john burrowes pick one: death@kira.uucp death%kira.uucp@netcom.com kira!death@netcom.com
