I have a weird one... I recently left my NeXT for a little over a month and went to Japan (among other places). When I returned I opened NewsGrazer and found that every single article had expired and had been deleted (I have crontab automatically zip 'em after two weeks). Nothing new had been distributed to the proper folders. However, when I checked /usr/spool/news/in.coming, I found that it had a little over 16 megabytes of news which had come in and which hadn't been distributed by newsrun (which runs very morning at 3 AM). I ran newsrun from the command line (logged in as news) and got my prompt back much too quickly. There was no eternity of hard disk labor and everything stayed where it had been. What on Earth could this be? One possible clue: for at least a month I have been getting the following message every morning: > Date: Wed, 19 Aug 92 03:00:08 GMT-0700 > From: news > Apparently-To: barlow > > expire problems: > expire: bad arrival date in `<12969@auspex-gw.auspex.com>707659286~-...' -- fix by hand > Could that be connected? Help! Please! I suspect there are things going on in rec.music.gdead which I might be able to clear up. But I can't know what they are if I can't read it. Of course, I also can't read any posted responses to this, so please e-mail me any suggestions you might have. Many thanks. ************************************************ John Perry Barlow barlow@eff.org P.O.
