I've been running Charon3.4 on a Netware3.11 server as an SMTP gateway for some time now. I've decided to start that I want to direct Novell print queues to some printers on our UNIX hosts. I downloaded the charon-2.0A stuff from omnigate.clarkson.edu last night and started working on it this morning. I went through the instructions which were pretty simple and then ran it. It was unable to attach to the queue. I've tried a few things to get it going to no avail. Here's what was done: (I'm only directing a Novell queue->UNIX and NOT UNIX->Novell Queue) On a fileserver called CNADNW2, Added a PrintServer called LPR with Pconsole Created a PrintQueue called ps1 Ran "addqop ps1 lpr" Ran "addquser ps1 lpr" [I assume this was actually unecessary since I'm not directing UNIX->Novell printing. I tried both ways just to make sure anyway.] Copied "lpq.exe" to a public directory in everyone's search path Set up "printer.dat" for the one remote printer as shown below [hosts.lpq set accordingly on remote host] Did not set up "lpd.dat" nor "access.dat" since I don't have any local novell printers that will be accessed from remote hosts. Set up "config.tel" appropriately Set up a user called "lprserve" that has all the configuration files and charon.exe in its login directory (and no password) Login as user "lprserve" and run "charon -p printer.dat -h config.tel Loads fine until it tries to attach the Queue (message described below). Things I tried: add user "lprserve" as a PrintServerOperator and a QueueOperator and also as a PrintServer and Queue user. Make a group "LPR" that has user "lprserve" as a member and give the group PrintServer and Queue operator permissions and add them to PrintServer and Queue Users. Additional info: Print Server = lpr No Password Print Server Operators -> Supervisor Print Server Users -> Everyone =========== Print Queue = ps1 Queue Operators -> lpr (Print Server) -> Supervisor (User) Queue Servers -> lpr (Print Server) Queue Users -> Everyone (Group) -> lpr (Print Server) ============ printer.dat: ;<queue> <hostid> <printer> <poll_delay> <open_timeout> ps1 iowa ps1 30 60 hostname *.csl.dl.nec.com ============ Login as lprserve and run "charon.exe -p printer.dat -h config.tel" Info: Adding Queue (1e000001) CNADNW2/ps1 --> iowa:ps1 Info: Attaching to Queue CNADNW2/ps1 Warning: Attach failed with error ea for Queue CNADNW2/ps1, unlinking Press <SPACEBAR> To Continue... [NOVLPR V2.0A monitor screen appears with no print queue or server entries.] ============= Based on the above Warning, I would suspect that there is some permission to the queue that is not present. I've done everything in the documen- tation for 2.0A and experimented with giving the login userid (lprserve) permissions to the print server and queue also. But, nothing helped. Is there something about NetWare v3.11 that needs to be treated differently? Any other suggestions? -- | Cornell Kinderknecht Email: cornell@csl.dl.nec.com | | CNAD/CCSL UUCP: uunet!necbsd!cornell | | NEC USA/NEC America, Inc.
