Passwords when moving users?

* * * Warning - Novice Alert! * * *
Sorry if you've seen this twice. I don't think it managed to escape the gravity
of our news server last time.
We're reorganising a lot of our Netware servers this Summer and will be moving
departments and individuals between them. I'm told that when users are moved
they have to be issued with new passwords as their old ones can't be copied
over. Is there no way of dumping the bindery to a text file, extracting the
relevant details including the encrypted password, then reloading them into the
new bindery?
Many thanks for any assistance.
Chris

I'd like to see an answer to this also .. But I believe that you can't dump the
bindery to a simple text file .. If that were true then a severe security
breach would be opened up to a lot of mayhem .. Since you are moving users to
differnt servers I believe that you have to re-do the passwords and such
unless you are running 4.1 where simply restoring the NDS would do the trick ..

Try the following steps On your old file server, login as supervisor and issue bindfix command. Bindfix will produce three files with extension ".old" in the system directory. These are the backup files for the bindery. Copy these files to the new server system directory and issue the bindrest command. This will restore the bindery to the new server. ------------------------------------------------------------- Yap Chin Jit (Systems Engineer) Pansar Computer Services Sdn Bhd Lot 229, 2nd Flr, Jln Tunku Abdul Rahman, 93100 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia Office: cjyap@pansar.po.my Home: cjyap@pop.jaring.my
