Please help me! Problem: Our main server crashed this afternoon. I believe the crash was caused by a MAC user trying to install a program from the network. (He was not supposed to do this, but unfortunately I didn't deny access to the directory.) Details: We are running Novell 3.11 I downed the server and brought it back up. SYS volume would not mount. I ran vrepair and it found many errors which it wrote to disk. I downed the server and brought it back up again, this time SYS mounted. Now, no one can login. When anyone tries to login the server console gives the message: NCP request received with invalid security signature. Possible intruder or network corruption. None of our users have passwords. I can't even login as supervisor with the right password. What I've tried: I believe the bindery has been corrupted, but I can't restore it because I can't login to the server from a workstation. Bindfix & bindrest are out. I tried copying the system directory from another server to the troubled server, downed it, brought it up, no change--still can't login. I want to run vrepair again, but can't seem to get the SYS volume NOT to mount so I can run vrepair again. It doesn't find vrepair if I mount then unmount the SYS volume. I tried a boot floppy but must have done something wrong because it can't find any volumes to repair when I try vrepair from the floppy. I'm trying right now to use sbackup's restore function. We have a fairly new tape backup on one of our other servers and luckily I backed up the crashed server a couple weeks ago. I'm having trouble restoring the bindery though. It's going now but the Total Restored amount has said 326.5 KB for over 32 minutes. I tried stopping it and restarting it, restoring not just the bindery but part of the sys, but this also seems to stick at 326.5 KB. It is currently attempting to restore still. I haven't stopped it yet. The Activity bar is going across normally and I haven't received any errors, but I'm just concerned about the Total Restored amount staying the same. I've been working on this for over four hours now. Any suggestions are greatfully appreciated! Thanks, Jessica
