I have had miniscribe problems for years. Try getting into your chassis and physically turn the little motor pin looking thing with another little piece screwed onto it then turn it on. If it spins up you won't have the problem again until you power down. The Apple drive I have automatically parks on the same sector every time and that sector sticks. I had mine serviced and it went bad again after nine months. I've since gotten an external drive and switched mechanisms leaving the screws off of the now external Miniscribe so that I can get to it easilly when I need to power it up. Sure wish someone would offer a way to low level format and change the sector it parks on. I'm just guessing with the formatting idea but the above solution of turning the drive works quite well. One can even leave the drive on twenty-four hours if you use it every day all day. Hope this helps. maurices
