ORDER LIST for ET532 PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards)
( As at 16 Oct 92 )
PCB COST
Will include shipping, PCB material, & shared photoplotting charges
costs will be announced when known, after which,
time will be allowed for changes, & then prior payment.

SERIAL PCB

Good question, first some background info:
A few weeks ago I asked George Scolaro:
> > - Do we also need to make piggy back octart PCBs ?
> Only if you want to have more serial ports.
Looking at George's ET532 schematics:
The ET532 can take 2 * SCC2698, each 2698 supports
EIGHT serial ports ! The optional `piggy back' board
has 16 * 145406, 16 * DIL Headers, Caps, & 2 Long DILs
to connect to ET532 main board.
For the ET532 to function just as an ethernet card, it should not be
necessary to populate the 2698 sockets, nor to have a piggy back card.
I do however foresee need for a few of us to have one serial port,
as I guess software development'll probably go in 3 stages:
1 Write/debug eprom for ET532 to talk to a serial port
(& prove hardware design works)
2 Extend ET532 monitor to talk over SCSI bus to some kind
of software interface on the PC532, so PC532 can download
code to ET532 & set breakpoints etc ?.
3 Develop ET532 ethernet code & ET532/PC532 higher level
protocols etc.
It will be easy for a few of us to wire wrap a protoboard lash up
to assist (1) & (2), it shouldnt be necessary for everyone else.
Doubtless the piggy back board is a very simple layout though,
& if its easy for Jonathan to make a few, we will (& if not, not :-) ).
Main thing is to get the ET532 PCBs fabricated :-) .
PHOTOPLOTTING
From jjsmith@nyx.cs.du.edu Fri Oct 23 04:06:27 1992
> and I should be able to plot them out fine here.. will see..
jjsmith said he could do this if necessary, But ..
To spare him some work (he hasnt got his pc532 pcb yet after all),
if anyone else can arrange photoplotting Please Speak.
( I have George's gerber info etc here, available on requeste (800K) )
George said re photo-plot printing on my 300 dpi laser

I'll surface post them probably with a copy of the ET532 gerbers,
unless anyone else can ftp him them.

Are the parts the same as I posted in George's build list ?
Has anyone else got prices CPU prices ?
Could someone please ask at a US West Coast IC shop, what an IC kit
price would cost (1 off & 20 off pricing I suggest).
( I believe jkh@sparc3.lotus.com (Dublin) can provide
names of IC shops for someone in the USA to ask at. )
The build list was posted to enable pricing exercises. People are
consuming their time & mine asking me for pricing, but I'm in the
wrong country for cheap or easily available prices, VOLUNTEERS PLEASE !
TOTAL PROJECT COST
This PCB order list does NOT commit you to IC purchase,
If short of cash, you can enroll on what will likely be a once
only ET532 cheap PCB fabrication run, then some time later buy the ICs.
I dont know board cost yet, as soon as I do I'll post the info,
(Yes really ! - no need to keep emailing/posting this question :-) ).

> However, if you want to run Minix, the GX32 won't work. It has no MMU
SO ? The GX32 goes on the ET532 daughter board ! ( that inserts into one
of the 4 scsi slots on the PC532 mother board ) Your existing expensive
32532 on the PC532 runs Minix/Mach whatever, a future cheap GX32
does single tasking ethernet (& serial) buffer to scsi bus transfers,
nothing more.
Very few (if any) of us will want to pay an extra $700 just so
we can run Mach on both processors, instead of just one.
IC KIT DISTRIBUTION
Hopefully someone(s) will consider doing IC bulk purchase & kit
distribution. (doesnt need to be same person who does pricing
investigations, but shouldnt be me, USA should be better purchase
& distribution point than Germany)
SOFTWARE:
Dave Rand <dlr@daver.bungi.com> mailed to say

(so I assume you want 3 PCBs bdale ? )
Rennolet (Kumar)" <rennolet@cs.umn.edu said Wed Oct 7

FINANCE
I can probably help bank rolling cash flow for PCBs &/or ICs if
necessary, but if someone else wants to, feel free ! ;
maybe someone who lives where the US $ is native currency,
& not subject to bankers exchange commisions !
- - - - - - - -
To estimate costs, & in preparation for board production ...
all `If's `But's & `Maybe's have been quantised to a 1 or 0 !
Digit in left margin is number of ET532 PCBs you will pay for, ie
0 You will NOT receive a board.
1 You will pay an as yet unknown amount for 1 PCB.
2++ You will also pay for others who are not listed below.
Next Digit is number of optional Serial piggy back pcbs you will pay for
( don't bother emailing me your preference about this yet,
if I can get these made, I'll take orders later )
