Offcourse either Half-life could not be converted as is. But the essential elements of Half-life could. Take for instance the main two elements of Half-life... 1)High AI of individuals 2)Eye Candy 1) The High AI opens up a plethora of new and interesting topics. Is it possible (Within the confines of the Oric and even using simplistic TEXT mode gfx) to emulate the same level of AI as used in Half-life adversaries? The 3D element of half-life allows for the greater flexibility of other being (Robot) navigation of a terrain. Example: A robot stands looking towards an exit. The exit is barred by two walls. The first wall is shoulder height, the second full height. Under 3D, the Robot can see beyond the first wall, but not beyond the second. The point is that in a 2D universe(Oric), such frailties as Wall heights are dismissed, thereby simplifying the whole process of 'Robot to exit' . When working on TOL, i had and have (still working on it) started to develop a certain level of AI for other creatures in the game. I loath the idea of simply pointing the creature at the hero, like some stupid lemming running to its fate. Every creature should have at least the capacity to decide whether to change tactic when it hits an obstacle. The method in TOL was to force a creature to observe the left-hand rule (used when cracking a maze) for around 10 moves, before returning to approach the hero. This meant that the creature invariably found a way round the wall and usually (in the end) found a direct path to the hero. But then what? Should the creature keep attacking till either is defeated, or should it retreat if it becomes badly wounded? Whilst the game contains pick-ups, shouldn't the creature also have the ability to heal itself and/or use weapons moved over? 2) Eye candy (or fodder) is an element of a game offcourse, and to a certain extent, the Oric is just as capable of creating a "wow" factor, though possibly only to other Oricians. Example: Dbug and Defence Force Demos Twilighte
